What’s happening tonight with international arrivals at many U.S. airports is a microcosm of the Trump administration’s response to #coronavirus: It simply doesn’t seem to have occurred to anyone that this late-breaking travel ban would create a huge surge of returning travelers.

And as bad as that mess-up is in general, it’s a potential disaster here given that the whole point of this enterprise is social distancing—the opposite of what’s happening. By bungling this one thing, the administration has only exacerbated the risk of spread between travelers.
