Trump is trying to deal with the coronavirus in part by retreating to familiar territory: floating a pardon of Flynn, complaining about FISA, and attacking the media.

We didn't have space to address this in the piece, but I think Trump's adoption of the "Chinese virus" slur is another example of this—it makes the virus part of a culture war, which is ground he knows how to play on.
