Pope Francis Meets With Scientists, Urges Certain Unnamed Nation (HE MEANS US) Not To Kill Planet

The ‘distraction’ or delay in implementing global agreements on the environment shows that politics has become submissive to a technology and economy which seek profit above all else,” Francis said.
Francis, who wrote an encyclical, or papal letter, on the environment last year, took a swipe at those who dispute that climate change is caused by human activity, criticizing “the ease with which well-founded scientific opinion about the state of our planet is disregarded”.

Make the Electoral College great again: let “conscientious electors” do their jobs

Must Read!

Updated by

Constitutional history makes clear that the founders had three main purposes in designing the Electoral College.
The first was to stop a demagogue from becoming president. At the Constitutional Convention, arguing in support of the Electoral College, Elbridge Gerry of Massachusetts said he was “against a popular election” for president because the people would be “misled by a few designing men.” In Federalist No. 68, Alexander Hamilton wrote that the electors would prevent those with “Talents for low intrigue, and the little arts of popularity” from becoming president. They would also stop anyone who would “convulse the community with any extraordinary or violent movements.”

Stopping foreign interference in elections was a primary goal of the founders

The second goal was to stop foreign interference in election. In the founding period, the framers were extremely concerned about infiltration by rivals including Great Britain. In Federalist No. 68, Hamilton wrote that one major purpose of the Electoral College was to stop the “desire in foreign powers to gain an improper ascendant in our councils.” He said that the college would “Guard against all danger of this sort … with the most provident and judicious attention” from the electors.
The third goal was to prevent poor administration of government. This is a less well-known purpose of the Electoral College, but it is again expressly discussed in Federalist No. 68. Hamilton wrote that “the true test of a good government is its aptitude and tendency to produce a good administration,” and for that reason, he said, the electors should be “able to estimate the share which the executive in every government must necessarily have in its good or ill administration.”

Bahrain To Hold Major Celebration At Donald Trump’s D.C. Hotel

Yet another potential conflict of interest for the president-elect.

WASHINGTON ― The Embassy of Bahrain plans to host its annual National Day celebration at President-elect Donald Trump’s lavish Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C.
Set to take place on Dec. 7, the Bahrain National Day celebration would add yet another bullet point to the ever-expanding list of potential conflicts of interest facing the president-elect as he seeks to balance his new role and his global real estate empire. His D.C. hotel already emerged as a point of concern after it suggested to foreign dignitaries that staying there during their official visits could help their relationship with the president-elect.

Thanks to a hundred thousand voters in the Midwest, anything with the word “Trump” emblazoned across its front just became a huge possible target for international terrorists."

In today's episode of 'Pimping the Presidency' ...

On top of everything, we have to rent space from him to protect him?? Ugh.

By Thandisizwe Chimurenga

The presidency of the United States is actually an institution, not an individual. As an institution, it must be protected. Most people get that idea. But how much does it cost to protect that institution? As written about last week, the price tag could top $1 million per day to protect President-(s)elect Donald Trump, his immediate family, adult children, and Trump’s grandchildren. But did you know some of that money, which is being paid by the American people in general and New Yorkers especially, might be finding its way into the president-(s)elect’s personal pocket? The Christian Science Monitor reports that the Secret Service may have to rent space in Trump Tower in order to be able to do its job of protecting Trump and his family:  Mr. Trump’s wife, Melania, and son, Barron, are staying in New York until the spring, and Trump has stated that he will travel there regularly during that time. For the Secret Service, protecting the family requires setting up a command center nearby — and Trump Tower has available space.

Millions of votes shouldn't count? That should frighten everyone.

By SemDem 2016/11/27 · 19:47

Try to imagine the rightwing outrage if Obama said that the few thousands of votes in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Michigan that separate Hillary and Trump shouldn’t count and we won’t acknowledge them—and therefore Hillary should be president.
Of course, he has too much respect for our Constitution to do such a thing.  On the other hand, we are on a road where stealing elections are standard operating procedure for the GOP.  We’ve had six years of voter suppression tactics---now, even if we somehow overcome those we are told we will still lose.
To be clear: there was never a scenario—not before the election or (God-willing) the next election where Donald Trump would ever accept defeat.  He is a megalomaniac and the GOP is all to happy to kowtow to him.
Today, we got a glimpse of the total madness that is Donald Trump.  Today, he incorrectly said that he won the popular vote, and I quote, “if you deduct the millions who voted illegally".

In order to give election returns to the Outagamie County Clerk’s office as quickly as possible the Chief Inspector added together the votes from the election machine tapes. The official process of tallying the votes was completed and rechecked. These vote numbers were recorded and delivered to the Outagamie County Clerk’s office the morning of November 9th. Electoral College must reject Trump unless he sells his business, top lawyers for Bush and Obama say

Richard Painter, Chief Ethics Counsel for George W. Bush, and Norman Eisen, Chief Ethics Counsel for Barack Obama, believe that if Trump continues to retain ownership over his global business interests by the time the electors meet on December 19, they should reject him.
As Eisen explains, “the founders did not want any foreign payments to the president. Period.” This principle is enshrined in Article 1, Section 9 of the Constitution, which bars office holders from accepting “any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state.” The provision was created to prevent the President from being corrupted by foreign influences.
Painter agrees. “I don’t think the Electoral College can vote for someone to become president if he’s going to be in violation of the Constitution on day one and hasn’t assured us he’s not in violation.” Painter says his attempts to warn the Trump transition of the legal consequences of Trump’s continued ownership of his business interests are being ignored.
Trump doesn’t release his tax returns. He won’t put his foreign business holdings into a blind trust. His children sit in on private meetings with foreign leaders. If the 538 Electors vote for Trump on December 19, in the absence of a complete divestment of his business interests, they will abdicate their solemn duties under the Constitution.

Wisconsin agrees to statewide recount in presidential race

Wisconsin's election board agreed on Friday to conduct a statewide recount of votes cast in the presidential race, as requested by a Green Party candidate seeking similar reviews in two other states where Donald Trump scored narrow wins.
The recount process, including an examination by hand of the nearly 3 million ballots tabulated in Wisconsin, is expected to begin late next week after Green Party candidate Jill Stein's campaign has paid the required fee, the Elections Commission said.
The state faces a Dec. 13 federal deadline to complete the recount, which may require canvassers in Wisconsin's 72 counties to work evenings and weekends to finish the job in time, according to the commission.

Donald Trump and the Return of Seditious Libel

In February he pledged that “one of the things I’m gonna do if I win, and I hope that I do, and we’re certainly leading, is I’m gonna open up our libel laws so when they write purposely negative and horrible and false articles, we can sue them and win lots of money. We’re gonna open up those libel laws. So that when the New York Times writes a hit piece that is a total disgrace, or when the Washington Post, which is there for other reasons, writes a hit piece, we can sue them and win money rather than have no chance of winning because they’re totally protected. You see, with me, they’re not protected, because I’m not like other people, but I’m not taking money, I’m not taking their money. We’re gonna open up those libel laws, folks, and we’re gonna have people sue you like you never got sued before.”

Hundreds Of Veterans “Self-Deploy” To Standing Rock To Defend Protesters

The protesters are in desperate need of more support as police turn to riot suppression tactics commonly used in authoritarian dictatorships. Since beatings, mass arrests, and targeted sexual humiliation has failed to break the spirit of the protesters, they have turned to outright violence, using water cannons to soak protesters in freezing temperatures and unleashing brutal fusillades of rubber bullets and concussion grenades.
Hundreds have been injured from bullet fire. One protester will lose her arm after a grenade detonation sliced through her muscles in a gruesome fashion. Five to six hundred have been treated for hypothermia after being hit by water cannons. The veterans, however, are undaunted at the prospect of violence. “Bring Body armor, gas masks, earplugs AND shooting mufflers (we may be facing a sound cannon) but no drugs, alcohol or weapons” reads the Facebook page.
